The Red Tent

I'm very much looking forward to our meeting about The Red Tent next week. I quite enjoyed the book. I found some frequently asked questions about the book on Anita Diamant's website which answer questions both about the content of the book, and about how she researched and wrote the book as well.

I also just finished Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro, which was originally going to be our April book. If anyone else has read this or gets the chance to read it over the next few months, I'd like to know what you thought and maybe have a short discussion on this book as well.

See everyone next week!

April Reading

I think the April book was "Snow Flower and the Secret Fan" by Lisa See, and I suggested "To Live" by Yu Hua as a complimentary book (in that they are both about China and both span over several decades...).

I have read both of these, but look forward to getting into them again; they were both enjoyable.

Looking forward to the 29th! See you then!

Next Meeting...and info from February

Hi!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Chiara. It was nice to get jarred back into the real world. I just finished the Twilight series, which was like Jerry Springer. You just can't stop watching/ reading:).
But, I'm back to our more cultured books and ready for The Red Tent. We will meet at Sarah's on March 29th. I will e-mail directions soon.

At our last meeting we discussed The Tenderness of Wolves and planned to read The Red Tent this month.

Our April read was also planned. Chiara suggested To Live by Yu Hua and a partner book which I did not take note of accuratetly. We can talk more about the April read later this month.
I can't wait to meet again and I hope you all are doing well!

When is our next meeting? + thoughts

Hi All,

I had a great time discussing "The Tenderness of Wolves", and I am looking forward to the next meeting, but I don't remember when we said that would be....is it the 22nd or the 29th?

I found myself thinking about the book long after the meeting--you brought up some points that I hadn't caught/thought about. Particularly that Mrs. Ross' name might just be Mrs. Ross, and not Lucy as I had interpreted. That sort of makes it clear that she was unavailable for a relationship with Parker...

The more I thought about it, though, the more irked I was about how Ms. Penney left the whole Francis and his father relationship unresolved. I wish we could have read about the reunion of Francis and his father....

As for my first book club meeting ever, I thought it was great.

See you later this month...

Chiara
